Jailhouse Cafe Charity Donations

Where do your Tips go?

The serving prisoners from HMPYOI Portland who work in the Jailhouse Café up at The Verne citadel on the top of Portland are not permitted to benefit personally from any tips given to them for their service, and so they pass them on the other charitable causes which they support.

In the past, thanks to the generosity of our customers, they have donated to both national and local charities; Great Ormond Street received a massive £920, the Weldmar Hospice in Dorset £403, the British Heart Foundation £50, and £200 went to a children’s charity, the Lullaby Trust.

This month they are delighted to be able to make a contribution to the local Portland Food bank. With the £100 collected by the café, and supported by £25 kindly donated by the Co-operative Food shop in Fortuneswell, we were able to buy £125 worth of foodstuffs to be given out to local families in need of a helping hand.
